first trailer declares “john dies at the end” an instant cult classic

It’s a combination that has piqued out interest from day one, one that offers the potential of something truly remarkable.Bubba Ho Tep and Phantasm director Don Coscarelli has spent the past year hard at work on a film adaptation of David Wong’s John Dies At The End, a brilliant and often hysterical cult hit scifi horror mashup… <read the story and see the trailer here> @ <http://twitchfilm.com/>

This is looking pretty cool.  I’m digging some of the horror element designs.  Cult Classic?  Don’t know about going that far, but I’d definitely check it out.  Next year we’re gonna have to hit up Fantastic Fest…  Awesome movies there, and a great excuse to get to Austin.  I’ll do a post about the festival itself one of these days.

I’m not the hugest fan of Levy, but he’s got some great stuff coming up.  This is a decent interview as well about his upcoming film “Real Steel” that I’m excited to see.  The cg looks great so far, and the concept is right in our wheelhouse.  Rocky with Robots.  Come on, easy sell right?  I recon it’s gonna be a fun film!  Hopefully the kinda film that kids see and will remember when they grow up…

Ohhhh, and how cool is it that Sugar Ray Leonard is the fight coordinator!  That brings back some memories.  Wide world of sports, Saturday afternoon, Howard Cosell…

Hell has taken over the Earth, led by the evil Count Draculon, and the human resistance is utterly crushed. Until one dying soldier gets transformed into the ultimate engine of vengeance… Manborg! Uh, what? <read about it here> @ <http://io9.com/>

Yeah, that is a movie from 2011…  I’m curiously drawn to it.  Might have something to do with a villain named Count Draculon.   Sorry, but I’m so there!

aliens: mothers, monsters and marines

Aliens: Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver)

James Cameron’s 1986 filmAliens contains a fascinating exploration of the way Western culture has traditionally aligned feminine characteristics onto nature while masculine characteristics have been aligned with civilisation. However, far from the more clear cut representation of this dichotomy that Cameron would later explore inAvatar (2009), where feminine/nature equalled good and masculine/civilisation equalled bad, Aliens has a more complex exploration by presenting two extremes of femininity with masculinity caught in the crossfire in the middle… <read the full article here> @ <http://blog.cinemaautopsy.com/>

WOOOoooooo, love the alien(s)…  Both are classics, and we’re using them as benchmarks for Rangda.  Love the line of “Alien is the best haunted house movie ever.”  Completely sums it up.

could star wars happen today?

The original Star Wars was a miracle of seat-of-the-pants film-making that captured the world’s imagination and boosted science fiction to new popularity.

But could something like Star Wars even get made today? There’s plenty of reason to doubt it… <read the full article here> @ <http://io9.com/>

Not only could it… but VisPop is gonna be the ones to do it!

debating human enhancement

Where do you stand on the subject of human enhancement? If recent cultural trends in things like musicmovies, and video gamesare any indication, it’s a subject that’s been picking at society’s collective conscience quite a bit as of late…  <read the full story here> @ <http://io9.com/>

I agree, this subject is coming up a lot lately.  Not to mention I love it, and we’re developing a couple ideas right in this wheelhouse…
